Spanish La Liga side, Girona, are considering making an offer for Super Eagles and Brentford midfielder, Frank Onyeka, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 26-year-old was a part player in Brentford’s Premier League campaign last season, starting just eleven out of the 26 games he played.
As per BBC, Brentford coach, Thomas Frank is not opposed to the idea of the former FC Midtjylland defensive midfielder leaving the club in search of playing time.
Onyeka is believed to have had options to leave in January, including a loan with an option move from Girona, who have since qualified for the Champions League for the first time under City Football Group’s ownership, but other clubs from England and France have shown interest as well, and the Nigerian is keen on settling his future before the transfer window closes.
As per Spanish outlet, Gironi, Girona have enquired about the services of the Super Eagles midfielder from the club’s coach, ahead of a potential move that’ll see the versatile midfielder leave the Gtech Community Stadium.
However, it remains unclear what terms would tempt Brentford to sell Onyeka whose current deal runs until 2027, with an option to extend for another year included.
Girona is an interesting option for Frank Onyeka, as he gets the assurance of playing regular UEFA Champions League football in a different league and system.
It is however a daunting task, as Girona boss, Miguel Ángel Sánchez Muñoz, has allowed Yan Couto, Artem Dovbyk, and Aleix García slip through his fingers to join other clubs, meaning he’ll have to rebuild the squad from the team that came 3rd in the La Liga last season.
