Another ‘Agba baller’ like Oshoala will emerge in Colombia – Danjuma foresees 2024 WWC turnout

Super Falconets head coach Christopher Danjuma has boldly predicted the emergence of a new Nigerian football star as the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup approaches, Soccernet.ng reports.

Danjuma's team has been drawn into a challenging group with Germany, South Korea and Venezuela, with their first game set against the Korean squad.

Drawing inspiration from Asisat Oshoala's standout performance at the 2014 Women's World Cup, Danjuma is confident that another ‘Agba Baller'—a term Nigerian fans used to describe football legends—will shine on the global stage in Colombia.

“Every tournament, we showcase top players such as Asisat Oshoala, who was our star performer at the 2014 U-20 World Cup. I am confident that at least one other ‘Agba Baller’ (football legend), as our fans call her, will emerge in Colombia,” he told FIFA Media.

For this tournament, Danjuma is leading a strong squad, including four professional players: Rofiat Imuran, Flourish Sabastine, Opeyemi Ajakaye, and Aminat Bello.

While he values the contribution of these experienced players, Danjuma also highlights the potential of the local league players, who are eager to make their mark.

“These are definitely key players, who are leading figures in the team. Just having them around boosts the squad. However, the team is largely made up of players from the national league, and we also want to highlight their quality and contribution. The main point is that our players have made great strides and are now ready to excel against tough opponents,” he added.

The Super Falconets are set to open their campaign against Korea Republic, followed by matches against Germany and Venezuela to conclude the group stage.
