Remo Stars coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has complained about the quality of the pay that coaches in the Nigeria Professional Football League, Soccernet.ng reports.
Popularly known as Ijaball, the 44-year-old has been in charge of the Sky Blue Stars since August 2022, and believes the trivial pay coaches get is a major reason why the NPFL isn't developing the way the fans want it to.
“The money is not encouraging. The money is extremely not encouraging. If a team in Rwanda can pay coaches $10,000 to $15,000, and we are here paying less than a million naira for a coach, which is less than $1,000, what do you expect? This is a coach that goes that goes to one single match. Everybody wants money from him, everybody,” the former Crown F.C. coach said in an interview with Brila.
Conversely, Coach Daniel believes the league would record massive development if more ex-Super Eagles players ventured into coaching.
“I will be extremely happy. Imagine we have a Finidi, an Oliseh, and Amuneke. Our league will also be the talk of the continent. It's important to have these experienced individuals contribute to our football development. They bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise that can significantly improve the standard of the league,” he concluded.
Remo Stars fell just five points off their goal of winning the league, and the coach took all the blame for the team's results. Coach Daniel has two degrees. One was from studying physiology at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, while the other came in human kinetics from the University of Ilorin before football came into the picture.
