Liverpool manager Arne Slot is reportedly keen on securing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli as the club’s primary transfer target this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Napoli forward, who has been open to leaving the Italian side, is valued at a hefty €130 million, a price that has deterred several potential suitors.
Paris Saint-Germain also expressed interest in Osimhen but were put off by both the high transfer fee and the player’s preference for a move to the Premier League.
Liverpool, however, appear more financially equipped to meet Napoli’s demands, especially after Arsenal backed out of negotiations over the substantial cost, while Chelsea are considering a loan offer with an option to buy.
According to reports from the Express, CAF Africa Player of the Year Osimhen tops Slot’s transfer wishlist as Liverpool seek to strengthen their attacking options.
The potential transfer would provide a significant boost to Liverpool’s frontline, especially as they prepare for life after Mohamed Salah.
Although Osimhen does not play the same position as Salah, his impressive goal-scoring ability makes him a valuable asset, capable of delivering the firepower Liverpool needs.
Slot has shown a consistent interest in Osimhen, dating back to May, and is even willing to make space in the squad by moving on current forward Darwin Nunez. However, interest in Nunez has been limited across Europe, which could complicate Liverpool’s plans.
The addition of Osimhen would solidify Liverpool’s attacking unit, potentially partnering him with Cody Gakpo, who recently secured the Golden Boot at Euro 2024, and Salah for the upcoming season.
Moreover, Liverpool’s long-term strategy includes further investments, likely in a right winger to eventually replace Salah.
However, the arrival of Osimhen could instantly make Liverpool the number-one challenger for Manchester City’s Premier League crown.
