Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s childhood club, Malmö FF are keen on the services of Super Eagles and Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper, Francis Odinaka Uzoho, Soccernet.ng reports.
The footballing legend called time on his playing career last season after winning trophies with every club he played against, alongside possessing a gallery of acrobatic goals.
His former club side, Malmö FF are currently top of the Sweden Allsvenskan first-division league, seven points above Djurgården.
As per Greek outlet, 24 Sport, Nigeria’s Francis Uzoho is a target for the 23-time Swedish League Champions. According to the report, the club have contacted Omonia Nicosia for the former Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper ahead of a potential move to Sweden.
Uzoho is worth about €500k, and his contract with Omonia runs till the summer of 2027. However, the transfer fees should not be an issue for the Swedish club that is on course to win its 24th league title.
Although mostly considered Omonia’s second-choice goalkeeper behind Fabiano, Uzoho won the Cypriot Cup with Omonia in 2022 and 2023.
In March 2022, Uzoho was in goal for Nigeria in a World Cup qualifier against Ghana, and his error allowed Thomas Partey’s shot to slip under his arms, ultimately costing Nigeria a spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
He apologised for the mistake, and his teammates rallied around him, although he had never really held his spot down since then. He started five out of Nigeria’s six games in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers. Still, he lost his starting place in the team to Stanley Nwabali at the AFCON 2023 tournament, only featuring off the bench after the Chippa United goalkeeper got injured.
Uzoho was left out of Finidi George’s 23-man squad for Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Stanley Nwabali, Maduka Okoye and Olorunleke Ojo were picked as the team’s goalkeepers.
