Nigeria’s Super Eagles held their first training session in Uyo ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin, Soccernet.ng reports.
The session took place at the Nest of Champions training pitch, where head coach Finidi George and his assistants guided the 13 players who have arrived so far.
Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface and Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika joined the camp early on Sunday morning, bringing the total to 13 players.
The team’s camp officially opened on Friday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The Super Eagles are staying at the Ibom Golf Resort Hotel, the same base they used during their successful qualification for the 2018 World Cup.
Early arrivals included Tanzania-based defender Benjamin Tanimu, Enyimba goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo, and Çaykur Rizespor star Ibrahim Olawoyin. Rangers left-back Kenneth Igboke and Remo Stars right-wing back Ismail Sadiq joined on Saturday morning.
AC Milan’s Samuel Chukwueze, Chippa United’s Stanley Nwabali, and Hatayspor’s Fisayo Dele-Bashiru are also in camp.
Nigeria will play South Africa’s Bafana Bafana at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday, June 7, followed by a match against Benin Republic in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Monday, June 10.
Nigeria are currently third in Group C with two points from two matches, trailing leaders Rwanda by two points and South Africa by one. The group winner after ten matches will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
