Victor Osimhen's social media outburst against former Nigeria International Finidi George has drawn widespread attention within the Nigerian football community, Soccernet.ng reports.
Osimhen was reportedly accused of faking an injury ahead of the Super Eagles' 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic.
It was alleged that Finidi stated he would not beg a player to join the team. In response, Osimhen took to Instagram Live to address the issue, but also made offensive remarks towards his supposed Super Eagles coach.

Impact on Osimhen’s Potential Napoli Exit
This incident is not the first time Osimhen has publicly lashed out at someone via social media. Such behavior has occurred on several occasions, often involving his managers.
This pattern of conduct could make potential suitors reconsider pursuing the striker, despite his talent drawing interest from top European clubs.
Osimhen has been linked with a €120 Million move away from Napoli, despite signing a contract extension with the club. He has reportedly rejected a return to Ligue 1, where Paris Saint-Germain showed interest, and Chelsea is reconsidering a potential purchase due to his injury record. This latest outburst further complicates his potential transfer.
Previously, Osimhen had a heated altercation with Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti, and now his conflict with Finidi stresses his tendency to publicly disrespect his bosses.

Osimhen’s Previous Online Rants
Former African Footballer of the Year, Victor Ikpeba, criticized Osimhen for attempting bicycle kicks during Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying match against Ghana.
Osimhen responded on Twitter with Yoruba proverbs, calling Ikpeba an “Agbaya”. He also infamously cursed a Nigerian journalist over a report sourced from an Italian media outlet.
His recent reaction against Finidi, declaring he has lost respect for him and does not mind leaving the Super Eagles, continues this pattern.
Calls for Calm and Professionalism
Osimhen’s latest reaction has sparked mixed responses on social media, with many calling for a public apology to Finidi, who denied making the alleged statement about Osimhen.
Critics suggest that Osimhen should have addressed the issue privately with Finidi before going public.
Engaging with Nigerian media friends for an interview could have provided a more professional platform to explain his side of the story, much like Cristiano Ronaldo did when he explained his contentious departure from Manchester United.
Osimhen’s commitment to the Super Eagles and his skill on the field, which earned him the title of 8th Best Player in the World for the 2023 season and the CAF Best Player Of The Year, are unquestionable.
However, he is advised to manage his anger and public outbursts carefully to avoid jeopardizing his promising career, especially at the young age of 25.

Journalism, as I understand it, demands impartiality. Reporters should not take sides, and even when they express opinions, they must provide balanced coverage of all perspectives. In this article, it appears the journalist is advocating for the footballer’s career to be compromised, which seems unfair.
Osimhen’s actions might have been excessive, but there are other ways to address such issues. Conversely, the respect given to Finidi George seems overstated. He was an outstanding player, but not a coach. Resigning after just three games raises questions about his perseverance and commitment. If he truly cared about this country and the team, he would have ignored the critics and focused on getting the best out of the squad. Abandoning the team during a crisis reflects poorly on one’s loyalty.
Implying that Nigeria cannot win without V.O. is unjust. Placing so much pressure on one player and blaming him for the team’s failures is unreasonable.
Ultimately, we need balanced journalism, free from bias, unlike some of the English press in the EPL.
