Aston Villa is set for an English Premier League battle with Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Italian defender Michael Kayode, who is also eligible to play for Nigeria, Soccernet.ng reports.
As previously reported, Spurs are lining up a bid for the Italy-Nigerian who spent two years in their Primavera squad before being promoted to Vincenzo Italiano’s first team last summer.
However, new reports by Football Italia reveal that the former Juventus Academy player has drawn interest from Aston Villa, who have submitted a bid to secure his signature.
According to Alfredo Pedulla, Aston Villa’s sporting director Monchi is keen on signing the 19-year-old and considers him a valuable addition to Unai Emery’s team.
As a result, Aston Villa has made an initial offer to Fiorentina of approximately €15 million plus add-ons. However, Fiorentina values the defender higher and is open to offers around €20 million plus add-ons. It is anticipated that Aston Villa will come back with an improved bid soon.
The Nigerian descent defender, born in Borgomanero, has made a significant impact at Fiorentina, contributing one goal and four assists from a defensive role in 37 appearances for the Italian club.
This has therefore piqued the interest of many top European clubs who are interested in signing him to bolster their squad.
Meanwhile, Luciano Spalletti has named Michael Folorunsho in his Euro 2024 squad, but has snubbed Kayode, who is also eligible to play for Italy, from the squad.
