“It’s possible”- South Africa’s Ronwen Williams expects lightning to strike twice ahead of 2026 World Cup qualifiers clash against Nigeria

South Africa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has expressed confidence ahead of the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria in June, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Bafana Bafana lock horns with Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium later in June as they look to climb up in group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Super Eagles are condemned to get a result against South Africa but it will not be so easy. The Bafana Bafana have proven to be a pain in Nigeria’s neck in recent years.

At the last Africa Cup of Nations, South Africa pushed Nigeria to penalties and it took the brilliance of Stanley Nwabali, who saved two penalties to ensure the Super Eagles emerged victorious.

The last time the Bafana Bafana visited Nigeria in 2017, they carted away a 2-0 win, with Percy Tau and Tokelo Rantie both scoring.

The game in June will be the first time that the South Africa male team will play in Nigeria since the 2017 encounter, and they are quite bullish ahead of the fixture.

Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper Williams, who will likely man the sticks for the Bafana Bafana believes they have what it takes to emerge winners.

“The last time we went to Nigeria we beat them. I was part of that squad so I will share my experience with the players,” Williams said, per Citizen.

“And it was a valuable experience in the Afcon, playing Nigeria. I think that was one of our better games at the Afcon, so it is possible to go there and get a result. Why not? We have shown we can compete with the best, we just need to show that consistency.”

Finidi George, who just got appointed as Super Eagles coach has a big job in his hands. It will be a big test for him and if he comes out unscathed, he will earn the trust of many Nigerian fans.
