Awoniyi predicts Forest’s chances for EPL survival, sparks wild reactions concerning his future at the club

Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Michael Awoniyi, has predicted his club's future amidst their battle as they look to avoid relegation from the English Premier League, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 26-year-old forward has been limited to just twelve starts in a Forest shirt this season due to a recurrent groin problem that kept him out of Nigeria's AFCON 2023 campaign in Ivory Coast.

The Super Eagles striker scored six goals in Nottingham Forest's final four league games last season to help them secure top-flight status and this season, returned from injury in the nick of time to help the team secure a 3-1 victory over Sheffield United.

Awoniyi came on in the 87th minute yesterday but was unable to help Nottingham clinch a point against Chelsea, as Nuno Espirito Santo's men fell to a 3-2 loss.

On the other side, West Ham's win over Luton Town was a relief for the Forest fans, giving them hope that they'll remain in the English top-flight competition next season, and the former Union Berlin striker believes the same.

“I think for us, we'll be there. We'll be in the Premier League next season, but the most important thing is to win the next game,” the former Liverpool striker said just outside the City Ground after the Chelsea game.

Speaking on his future with the club, with a shy smile on his face, Awoniyi appeared unsure about playing with Nottingham Forest next season.

“That's a tough one, but I'm still under contract with Nottingham Forest and I'm here. So for now, I'm a Nottingham Forest player,” the former Mainz 05 forward added.

Luton Town will have to score twelve goals against Fulham in their final league game and hope that Forest fall to a defeat against Burnley if they're to have any hope of remaining in the English Premier League next season.
