Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has urged his Atalanta teammates to keep playing well until the end of the season, as they look to challenge for a UEFA Champions League spot, Soccernet.ng reports.
Lookman has continued his brilliant performances for Atalanta from where he left off last season. The 26-year-old forward has registered eleven goal and seven assists in 37 games for La Dea across all competitions.
Atalanta currently sit sixth in Serie A with 57 points after 33 games. They sit two points behind Roma, who have played one game more. And with the new UEFA Champions League format which will take effect from next season, five teams will qualify from the Serie A, meaning that Roma would make it if the table remains this way.
However, Atalanta have their destiny in their hands, as if they win their remaining five games, they will usurp Roma in fifth and qualify for the Champions League.
Following their 2-0 win over Empoli on Sunday, Lookman has urged his Atalanta side to keep up with their winning momentum and qualify for the Champions League.
“This victory(against Empoli) is very important because we have to reach the Champions League. We also have commitments in the Italian Cup and the Europa League, winning today was important,” Lookman said per Napoli Magazine.
“Roma are a strong team but so are we. We know that every match is difficult but we are ready to try to win them all.”
Atalanta have not qualified for the Champions League for the last two seasons, but they will be looking to end that run this season.
