Super Eagles defender, Chidozie Awaziem, has allayed all fears regarding the Super Eagles’ interim coach, Finidi George, ahead of their international friendly clash against Ghana, Soccernet.ng reports.
Finidi has been appointed as the stand-in coach for the Super Eagles of Nigeria following the expiration of Jose Peseiro’s contract after the conclusion of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Meanwhile, during Peseiro’s tenure, the manager of the current champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League served as one of his coaching staff for 22 months.
In his first training session with the Super Eagles as an interim coach, the Boavista FC defender has nothing but praises for him, revealing that the Super Eagles caretaker manager knows the team.
“It has been wonderful, amazing, the atmosphere is quite good, the weather conditions are good, and we are all focused on the friendly games ahead and we are all getting along with our new coach,” said the Boavista FC defender.
“I think basically he [Finidi George] knows everything about the team; he [Finidi George] has been part of us, so it is not going to be difficult for him to lead the team.
“He [Finidi George] is doing amazingly well with the training sessions, and I hope we are going to have a good run with him.”
The 2013 AFCON champions and the Black Stars of Ghana will reignite their long-aged rivalry on Friday, and Nigerian football fans are anticipating impressive results.
Awaziem reacting to the rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana stated what it really means for both sides to face each other.
“Honestly, we are planning to have a good game against Ghana. We know the rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana, but we are all prepared and focused for the game.
“Football is not a game of fight. It is a sport; we are just going there to play; we are not going there to fight each other.
“We all are football players, and we all want to fight for our country. I mean, it is going to be a wonderful game between Nigeria and Ghana.”
The finalists of the 2023 AFCON tournament will take on Ghana on Friday at the Stade de Marrakech tomorrow at 2:00 pm Nigerian time.
