Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor is considering a permanent transfer for Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu in the summer, as reported by Soccernet.ng.
Onuachu was one of the standout players in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League between 2020 and 2023. The Nigerian striker emerged as the league’s top goalscorer in the 2020/2021 season, scoring 35 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions.
Following his impressive performances, he attracted interest from several top European clubs, such as Atlético Madrid, Fiorentina, and Lyon, but a deal failed to materialize.
Eventually, Onuachu secured a move in January 2023, but it was to a struggling Southampton side, who were merely hoping to avoid relegation.
Unfortunately, the move didn’t pan out well for him. He received limited game time and failed to contribute to any goals in his 12 appearances for the club.
It seemed like Onuachu’s career was headed for a downturn, but he sought a move to Turkish club Trabzonspor last summer.
The season-long loan has proven fruitful for the 29-year-old striker, as he has scored nine goals in 18 games for the former Turkish champions.
Onuachu’s impressive performances have generated interest, with reports from Saints Socialite suggesting that Trabzonspor may be interested in signing him permanently. However, the main concern would be the price.
Onuachu is valued at €12 million, which could be a significant investment for a Turkish club, especially considering the player’s nearing 30th birthday.
Nonetheless, both parties could potentially reach an agreement, as Southampton may be looking to offload Onuachu to free up space and generate funds for other signings.
