Frank Onyeka keen on Osimhen’s Premier League move amid Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal links

Frank Onyeka and Victor Osimhen donned the colours of the Super Eagles in the just-concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations

Brentford FC midfielder, Frank Onyeka, expresses his desire for Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen, to join the English Premier League amid interest from top European clubs, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian star garnered media attention during his remarkable performance for Gli Azzurri in the 2022-23 Serie A season, leading them to win the trophy for the first time in 33 years.

Throughout the campaign under Luciano Spalleti’s leadership, he netted a total of 31 goals and provided 5 assists in 39 appearances, attracting interest from clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, and others.

During an interview with Sky Sports, Onyeka was asked about the possibility of playing alongside his compatriot, who has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League. In a light-hearted response, he jokingly remarked that Osimhen might be too expensive for the West London side.

“No, no, no! He’s too expensive!” he jokingly replied.

Expanding on Osimhen’s qualities, the midfielder emphasized his competitive spirit and dedication to winning.

“He’s a really good guy but he’s someone that wants to win. He doesn’t like to lose, even in training. He always wants to push players around him, try to encourage them. He’s a fighter.”

Onyeka believes Osimhen’s contributions were undervalued at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he emerged as one of the standout performers despite not scoring many goals.

“He’s always there to help the team, fight for the team. Even when the team is down, he’ll be the first man to push the team. He never gives up. For me, he was one of the best players in the tournament, but people don’t really see what he does,” he added.

Osimhen’s release clause is currently set at 130 million euros, posing potential Financial Fair Play issues for clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United. However, Onyeka remains hopeful that his compatriot will secure a move to the Premier League, where they may face each other as opponents.

“Hopefully, he comes to the Premier League,” Onyeka expressed.

Osimhen has been included in the squad to face Torino this evening, and the Nigerian, who has scored 3 goals in his last two Serie A appearances, will be eager to continue his impressive form.
