The Super Eagles of Nigeria were scheduled to tackle Argentina in an international friendly in China
Reports circulating the Nigerian media space as suggested that Nigeria’s friendly clash against Argentina has been rescheduled, with a new venue confirmed following the cancellation of the initial location in China, as reported by Soccernet.ng.
This sets the stage for a potential showdown between Lionel Messi and Victor Osimhen on the field in March, with the United States of America selected as the new venue.
According to earlier reports from Soccernet Nigeria, the Chinese sporting authority scrapped plans to host the international friendly between Argentina and Nigeria, as well as the match against 2023 Africa Cup of Nations champions, Cote d’Ivoire.
This decision came after a disagreement involving Argentina’s star player Lionel Messi, who had been expected to participate in a friendly game in Hong Kong but was sidelined due to a groin injury.
This move disappointed thousands of fans who had eagerly anticipated seeing the world’s reigning best player in action.
In addition to the Argentina match, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are also scheduled to face El Salvador in another international friendly at the same venue in the USA.
However, uncertainties loom for the Super Eagles as they have yet to resolve contract issues with Jose Peseiro, their coach, who may not lead the team in the clashes against Argentina and El Salvador.
