AFC Champions League: Nigeria’s Henry Onyekuru dares Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr – “Nothing is impossible”

The Knights of Najd are the favourites to advance to the quarterfinals of the continental championships, but the Super Eagles striker insists it is not game over just yet

Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru has vowed that his Al-Fahya will throw caution into the wind and aim for victory when they face Al-Nassr in the second leg of their AFC Champions League knockout fixture on Wednesday night, Soccernet.ng reports.

Al-Nassr, captained by legendary Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, have the first-leg advantage courtesy of a 1-0 win inside the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in Riyadh on February 14.

Ronaldo netted the only goal in the 81st minute of that encounter as the former Real Madrid star remains on a mission to help the club win their first Champions League title.

Onyekuru was a second-half substitute in the match, while compatriot Anthony Nwakaeme featured for the first 75 minutes against the Knights of Najd.

The two Nigerian forwards will likely start the second leg following their excellent displays at the weekend.

Onyekuru scored two goals, and Nwakaeme added a goal and two assists to lift Al Fayha to a come-from-behind 3-1 victory away to Al Hazm in the Saudi League.

A repeat performance could see Al Fayha stun Ronaldo and co at the Al Awal Park at King Saud University, Riyadh, tonight, and Onyekuru has warned Al-Nassr to expect the unexpected.

“There is nothing impossible in football, and our goal is definitely to win,” the former Monaco forward said at the pre-match press conference.

“We will face Al-Nassr, and our first goal is to win and play strong, and we must abandon caution in order to advance to the quarter-finals.

“It is true that Al-Nassr is a big team and has good elements, but we want to prove ourselves by winning.

“It does not matter who scores against Al-Nassr, the most important thing for me is to achieve victory and make the fans happy.”

Al Nassr have not lost any of their last eight matches in the AFC Champions League.

Interestingly, Al Fayha have not been a match for Al Nassr in the head-to-head records, winning one and losing ten of 15 previous meetings in all competitions.
