Despite playing for England’s youth ranks, Chuba Akpom expressed his desire to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in 2019, but is yet to make an appearance for them.
England-born Ajax forward, Chuba Akpom, has garnered interest from two English Premier League sides after just six months in the Netherlands, Soccernet.ng reports.
Akpom, 28, joined Ajax last summer from EFL Championship side, Middlesbrough, and has scored nine goals in twenty games for the four-time UEFA Champions League winners.
According to TeamTalk, two Premier League clubs are vying for the signature of the Arsenal Hale End graduate and are keen to bring him in before the end of the January transfer window.
Robert Owen Edwards’ Luton Town and Sean Dyche’s Everton are the two teams looking at Akpom to solve their attacking problems. With just one point separating them, Luton and Everton are dangling in the relegation zone, with both teams in 18th and 17th respectively.
Both teams have also scored just twenty-four goals in their Premier League games this term, and are desperate for a proven goalscorer up front.
It is thought that the former Nottingham Forest attacker would be open to joining a Premier League club on a temporary deal, but it is unlikely that Ajax will be open to allowing him move just six months into his start to life in the Dutch league.
Capable of playing as a striker and an attacking midfielder, Akpom will be a direct replacement for the injured Abdoulaye Doucoure who has been in fine form for the Toffees.
As for Luton, Akpom could provide competition for Carlton Morris and Elijah Adebayo in the striker positions.
