Official: David Ankeye – Nigerian forward joins Serie A side Genoa from Sheriff Tiraspol

The forward makes a huge jump from one of Europe’s lower league to one of the continent’s best divisions

With a statement on their official channels, Serie A campaigners Genoa have confirmed the signing of David Ankeye on a permanent deal, Soccernet.ng reports. 

The exciting Nigeria strikers joins the Itlaian elite division club from Moldovan Super Liga outfit, Sheriff Tiraspol.

According to reports in the Italian media, Genoa paid a fee in the region of €3m to secure Ankeye’s services.

Born 21 years ago in Port Harcourt, Ankeye made a huge impact in European club competitions to attract the attention of Genoa.

The youngster made ten appearances and scored three goals in the Europa League and added another appearances in the Champions League qualifiers.

Ankeye has also been in fine form in the Moldovan Super Liga this season.
The former Hammarby star registered five goals in 13 league matches for Sheriff Tiraspol.

While several other clubs were interested in his services, it is Genoa that has beaten other competitors to Ankeye’s signature, committing the youngster to a three-and-a-half-year contract, which will run until the summer of 2028.

Ankeye will wear the No. 30 shirt at his new club.
