Napoli’s Osimhen set to sign new ₦10 billion extension in less than 19 days

Napoli have been trying to get Osimhen to pen a new deal in recent months, and it seems like both parties have reached a compromise

Super Eagles talisman Victor Osimhen could sign a new bumper contract with Serie A champions Napoli before the end of the year, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen arrived at Napoli from Lille in 2020 for a club-record €72 million. He had a stuttered start in his first season, but the 24-year-old star picked up in his second season.

Osimhen scored 18 goals in 32 games two seasons ago, in the run-up to Napoli’s fifth-place finish in the Serie A. But he reached a new level last season, scoring 31 goals in 38 games for the Parthenopeans.

His brilliance was key in helping Napoli win the Serie A title for the first time in 33 years. He also helped the club reach the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time in their history.

Following his stellar campaign, some top clubs in Europe were linked with his signature. However, Napoli refused to sell and started contract extension talks with the 24-year-old hitman.

It seemed like the extension talks would go smoothly, but both parties have failed to reach a compromise since the end of last season.

Meanwhile, with his contract set to expire in 2025, there have been talks that Osimhen will leave Napoli next summer.

But in a recent development, Napoli Magazine reported that Osimhen will sign a contract extension before the end of the year. His new deal will see him earn €10 million a year (₦10 billion).

This development comes after he won the 2023 CAF Player of The Year Award, becoming the first Nigerian to do so in 24 years.
