Gift Orban was invited for Nigeria’s AFCON qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe back in September, but couldn’t play due to an injury.
German Bundesliga side, Eintracht Frankfurt have cooled talks about Gift Orban’s transfer jn recent weeks, Soccernet.ng reports.
Orban, 21, was widely tipped to replace French super star, Randal Kolo-Muani after he departed the Commerzbank Arena to join Kylian Mbappè’s Paris Saint-German.
The Nigerian was also discussed amongst the Tottenham hierarchy as a replacement for Harry Kane who moved to Bayern, but nothing concrete surfaced.
According to Sport Bild, Dino Toppmöller’s side are still looking for a striker to fill the void Kolo-Muani left, but the club feel Orban isn’t their ideal striker.
The publication revealed that the decline in interest from Die Adler isn’t due to his dip in form, but rather die to the fact that they have a player of his profile on their books, in the person of Omar Marmoush.
The Egyptian striker joined Frankfurt on a free transfer in the summer and has scored six goals in eleven games for the 2022 Europa League winners, including a famous double against Borussia Dortmund.
Orban has scored three goals in the Belgian top-flight this season, but has scored five hat-tricks in the last eight months for KAA Gent.
Orban got his first National call-up back in September when the Super Eagles ran riot at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, defeating Sao Tome and Principe by 6-0.
He was unable to make his debut due to an injury he sustained in training.
While Orban has a lower overall goal count this season, he’s shown explosiveness with five hat-tricks in recent months.
