The defender has impressed for club and country in 2023 and could be set for an exciting winter when the January transfer window opens
Turkish giants Fenerbahce have decided to extend the contract of Nigerian defender Bright Osayi-Samuel, Soccernet.ng reports.
After a challenging time under former coach Jorge Jesus last season, Osayi-Samuel has made an impressive return to Fenerbahçe’s starting lineup this term, excelling in the right-back position.
Fenerbahce, recognizing his resurgence, are now actively working on a new contract for Osayi-Samuel, seeking to improve the terms of his salary.
The current agreement of 600,000 euros annually, binding Fenerbahçe and the 25-year-old full-back, expires in June 2025.
However, there are ongoing negotiations behind the scenes to secure a three-year extension with a salary boost, according to Sabah via Liga Blatt.
The financial adjustment is not just a nod to Osayi-Samuel’s contributions but also a strategic move to deter any potential transfer aspirations.
Osayi-Samuel has reportedly attracted interest from Stade Rennes in Ligue 1.
The reports suggest that Fenerbahçe anticipates contact from the French side during the winter transfer window.
Moreover, Bournemouth and Brentford were reportedly eyeing Osayi-Samuel in the summer, fueled by the defender’s Premier League aspirations.
Despite these enticing propositions, Osayi-Samuel could remain in Turkey beyond the winter as Fenerbahçe have no plans to let him leave just yet.
The former QPR ace was in action for 83 minutes in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Lesotho during their World Cup qualifying clash on Thursday.
