Paul Onuachu joined Trabzonspor on a season-long loan during the summer transfer window after an unsuccessful stint with Southampton
English Championship side Southampton has reportedly made a decision about Nigerian International Paul Onuachu, currently excelling in Turkey, Soccernet.ng reports.
Reports from Italian media outlets suggest that Trabzonpor is eager to secure the Super Eagles forward’s signature on a permanent basis. However, Southampton is not keen on selling him, potentially hindering the move.
The towering Nigerian striker initially joined the Saints from Belgian side KRC Genk during the January transfer window. However, his tenure was considered unsuccessful, failing to score in 18 appearances for the club.
Consequently, Onuachu was loaned to the Burgundy Blues in the Super Lig, where he has thrived, scoring six goals in eight appearances thus far.
Southampton’s current position, fourth in the EFL table, places them nine points behind Leicester City, making a return to the English Premier League a viable prospect if their form continues.
Reports suggest that Southampton has future plans for Onuachu’s return in 2024, potentially as a key player in their forward line for a potential Premier League comeback.
Having signed a 3-year deal in January, Onuachu has time to establish himself in England unless an irresistible transfer deal lures him away from Southampton.
