Boniface just moved to the Bundesliga in the summer, and he has made a big impact
Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has revealed that he knew Victor Boniface was a top player when his side played against Royale Union SG in the Europa League last season, Soccernet reports.
Boniface has been a revelation for Bayer Leverkusen since he arrived in the summer. He has registered nine goals and three assists for Die Werkself this season and has formed a great partnership with his teammates.
His brilliance has helped Bayer Leverkusen maintain an unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga, and they currently sit second in the league, behind champions Bayern Munich.
Xabi Alonso has been really impressed with the 22-year-old’s performances since he arrived. The former Real Madrid man has stated that Die Werkself had their eyes set on the Super Eagles striker since last season.
“I already knew Boniface was a top player when Bayer Leverkusen played Royale Union SG in the Europa League last season,” Alonso told Oma Akatugba.
“He was a strong candidate for us; we are very satisfied with him. He has adapted himself very well to the team’s plan and the tempo of the Bundesliga.”
“It is not easy; there are a lot of good central defenders to come up against, but he has the quality, he is strong.”
Aside from his prowess in front of goal. Boniface is very creative. He can take on players and has the eye for the pass. With how he has played so far, he has proven to be a gem for Bayer Leverkusen.
