Napoli are yet to reach the heights of last season, and Aurelio De Laurentiis is already shopping for a possible replacement for Garcia
Serie A champions Napoli are exploring the possibility of employing former Chelsea boss Graham Potter as their new coach if they sack Rudi Garcia, Soccernet reports.
Napoli won the Serie A title for the first time in 33 years last season under the tutelage of Italian manager Luciano Spalletti. However, he left the job for the Italian national team position.
Nonetheless, Napoli employed Rudi Garcia in the summer. But since the French tactician took over at the club, the results have not panned out as the club would have liked.
The Partenopeans have won five of their nine games and sit third on the league table. Also, the play has not been the free-flowing, eye-catching football that Napoli was known for last season. Amidst all of these, there have been issues with Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen.
First, he had issues with Garcia for substituting him in their goalless draw against Bologna. Then the club posted a cheeky video on their TikTok account, mocking the Super Eagles point man.
Following their struggles, there have been talks about De Laurentiis shopping for a new coach. Former Marseille boss Igor Tudor was in the conversation.
However, in a new report by Transfer News Live, the latest candidate for the job is Potter. The Englishman has been without a club since he was sacked at Chelsea.
Potter is known for his possession-based football style. But, at Chelsea, he struggled to structure his team to create opportunities and score goals. If the move happens, Potter would have to set up in a way that would make Osimhen function adequately as he is the focal point of Napoli’s attack.
