Boniface has been firing on all cylinders since he joined Bayer Leverkusen, but he could have been doing the business elsewhere
Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface was initially offered to Borussia Dortmund in January this year, but they refused to sign him, Soccernet reports.
Boniface has been a revelation for Bayer Leverkusen since he arrived from Royale Union SG. The 22-year-old striker has registered nine goals and three assists in ten appearances for Die Werkself.
His performances have been key for Die Werkself, as they currently sit at the Bundesliga table, one point above champions Bayern Munich.
However, his career could easily have gone elsewhere, as there were other clubs interested in him.
According to BVB Newsblog, an intermediary offered Boniface to Borussia Dortmund in January, but they refused to sign him, opting to keep faith with Sebastien Haller instead.
That decision has not exactly paid off, as Haller has struggled this season. The Ivory Coast star is yet to find the net after seven league games.
If Boniface had moved to Dortmund, he would have been the perfect replacement for Erling Haaland, who left for Manchester City last year.
Still, Boniface would not be bothered, as he has grown immensely under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso.
