Napoli and Osimhen have been in the limelight because of a video that was posted on the club’s TikTok account, but they have come out to clear the air
Italian Serie A champions Napoli have released a statement on the viral video of Victor Osimhen that was posted on the club’s TikTok account, Soccernet reports.
After missing a penalty in Napoli’s goalless draw at Bologna over the weekend, a TikTok video was posted on the club’s official TikTok account mocking the 24-year-old. This development sparked a series of reactions.
Osimhen deleted most Napoli-related posts from his Instagram account, and there was a video of him snubbing his teammates while entering the club’s facilities.
Surprisingly, the Super Eagles striker played and scored in their 4-1win over Udinese on Wednesday.
Napoli have now released a statement on the issue. The club has stated that they have no ill intentions towards Osimhen.
“Calcio Napoli, wishing to avoid any exploitation of the issue, point out that we never wanted to offend or mock Victor Osimhen, who is a treasure of this club,” the club wrote.
“As proof of that, during the summer training retreat, the Club firmly rebuffed every offer that was received for the striker’s transfer abroad”.
“Social media, in particular TikTok, has always used an expressive form of language with a light heart and creativity, without wanting to, as in the case with Osimhen as protagonist, have any intention of insult or derision”.
“In any case, if Victor perceived any offence towards him, this was not what the club intended”.
Despite the release, the club failed to state the motive behind the TikTok video. Osimhen was in contract talks with Napoli before this issue. With this, he may be unwilling to extend his stay at the club.
