Victor Osimhen has been recognized among the 30 nominees for the 2023 Ballon d’Or award following his title-winning season with Napoli

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has reacted to his ongoing goal drought for Napoli after helping his side to a 1-2 victory over Braga in the first game of this season’s Champions League on Tuesday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 24-year-old has been one of the most prolific strikers since the start of last season, scoring 31 goals in all competitions to help Napoli claim their first title in 33 years and last-eight of the Champions League.

He also started the new season in good form, netting three goals in his first two Serie A games.

But he has failed to find the back of the net for the Parthenopeans in their last two league games against Lazio and Genoa and Wednesday’s 2-1 victory over Braga in their Champions League opener.

Napoli had 18 goal attempts on Wednesday night, and they could only manage a goal from their six shots on goal through Giovanni Di Lorenzo, with their winning goal coming from an own goal.

Osihmen admitted after the match that it was strange he did not get on the scoresheet against the Portuguese team.

Nevertheless, the Nigerian forward was delighted to help Napoli secure all three points at the Estadio Municipal de Braga.

He said: It’s strange to end a game without scoring. I’m a striker, and strikers live for goals, but it’s not something that bothers me much because it’s already happened, and I’m prepared for it, Osimhen was quoted on Uefa’s Website.

It’s not just with goals that you help the team and I’m always ready to help in other ways

The former Lille striker will be aiming to regain his scoring form when Napoli visit Bologna for their league assignment on Sunday.
