Top Seven Super Eagles stars who made club moves in the 2023 Summer transfer window

The talent pool in Nigeria continues to be one of the best in the world when it comes to finding the best players who fit the top club’s goals.

The outstanding performances of Nigerian players like Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Iheanacho have solidified the country’s reputation as a source of exceptional football talent.

As a result, the 2023 summer transfer window has seen several Nigerian players making moves to new clubs, and embarking on new chapters in their careers.

Given this, Soccernet.ng will highlight the Nigerian men’s national team stars who have switched their clubs this summer.

Ola Aina:

The Nigerian defender joined Nottingham Forest after leaving Torino, where he spent nearly five years and made 102 appearances in Serie A. Aina signed a one-year deal, becoming Forest’s first signing of the summer transfer window.

Calvin Bassey:

Donning the jersey number ‘3’ for Fulham, the 23-year-old defender signed with the Premier League side from Dutch club Ajax, committing to a contract until 2027 with an option to extend.

Samuel Chukwueze:

After attracting interest from several top-flight clubs as his contract neared its end at Villarreal, the speedy Nigerian winger opted to join his friend Victor Osimhen in Serie A. Chukwueze signed a five-year deal for AC Milan.

Alex Iwobi:

In a surprising move late in the 2023 summer transfer window, Iwobi switched from Fulham to Everton in a deal worth around £22 million, including add-ons. The former Arsenal forward returned to London and will reunite with compatriot Bassey at Fulham.

Leon Balogun:

Following a contract disagreement with Glasgow Rangers, Balogun briefly joined QPR before making a return to Rangers, signing a one-year contract and reuniting with Cyriel Dessers.

Cyriel Dessers:

The Super Eagles forward transferred from US Cremonese, who had been relegated to the Italian second tier, to join Rangers for a fee of approximately €6.5 million. He signed a four-year deal and will proudly wear the jersey of the Scottish champions until 2027.

Kenneth Omeruo:

Super Eagles defender Omeruo made a move from CD Leganes to Super Lig side Kasimpasa after reportedly parting ways with the Spanish club due to contract issues related to his high salary.

These transfers underscore the growing influence of Nigerian footballers on the global stage, and the Nigerian football community anticipates how these talented players will contribute to their new clubs.
