The youngster spent last season in the Austrian top-flight, but he has now returned to England
Arsenal have confirmed that Super Eagles-eligible goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has joined English League Two side Wrexham on a season-long loan deal, Soccernet reports.
Okonkwo is a product of the Arsenal Academy. However, he has been unable to break into the first team. The 21-year-old shot-stopper had a short stint at Crewe Alexander last year. Then he joined Austrian Bundesliga club Sturm Graz in January. He made 18 appearances and kept six clean sheets.
Okonkwo returned to Arsenal this summer following the completion of his loan deal. But coach Mikel Arteta does not have him in his plans.
Arsenal have now confirmed that the 21-year-old goalkeeper has joined Wrexham on a season-long loan deal.
Okonkwo is expected to slot in as the first-choice goalkeeper at Wrexham. The club just made it to the League Two this season, and Okonkwo would be looking to use his experience as the club looks to challenge for League One promotion.
Okonkwo is at a critical point in his career, as he has just one year left on his Arsenal contract. He has to perform well at the club so he can get a good deal at the end of next summer.
Okonkwo has Nigerian parents but he was born in England. He currently represents England at youth level, but he is eligible to play for the Super Eagles.
