Gift Orban has been recently linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur after a stellar performance for Gent that saw him register 22 goals in 20 games
European football expert Andy Brassel has described Nigeria and Gent striker Gift Orban as a player with huge potential following constant speculations linking the 21-year-old with a move to England, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Nigeria prospect has been reported to be on the radar of Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, who are finding a replacement for Harry Kane after the Englishman completed a £100 move to Germany with Bayern Munich a few days ago.
Transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, has since confirmed that the North London club has a concrete interest in signing the Nigeria International this summer, and a recent report revealed further that talks have already begun between Tottenham and the intermediaries chosen by the player.
Orban announced himself to Europe last season when he netted three goals in 205 seconds for KAA Gent during the second leg Europa Conference League Round of 16 fixture against Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey.
The 21-year-old ended his first six months with the Belgian club with 22 goals in 20 games and has had a fantastic start to the 2023/24 campaign in the Jupiler Pro League and the Europa Conference League qualifiers with five goals in as many games.
He has an impressive ability to manoeuvre the ball between defenders, and his prowess inside the box and instinctual movement make him a formidable presence, always finding himself in the right place at the right time to capitalize on second balls and wide deliveries.
Orban has worked all his abilities together to form an irresistible force in front of the goal, drawing the attention of scouts and pundits, and among them was Andy Brassel, who described him as a player that has the potential to play in the Premier League, but questioned if he’s ready to adapt immediately if signed by Tottenham Hotspur.
They’re going in a completely different direction because he’s young, raw, explosive and he’s done brilliantly since his arrival in Belgium, Brassel said on Sky Sports’ Transfer show
But in terms of him being ready, you have to ask that because he did brilliantly in the back end of the
To expect him to make that step up to scoring in the Premier League every week is a big step. They can sort of buy themselves some time because he’s got enormous potential.
He said that playing a talented player like Brazilian forward Richarlison alongside him could help get the best out of the Nigerian striker.
They have got Richarlison who can lead the line for a moment, do that a bit as well, so they expect to get more out of him.
When they’ve got Richarlison who had a frustrating season for one reason or another, certainly backing up Harry Kane is not easy for any top striker it’s fair to say. Going for someone a bit younger may be a sensible approach.
The 21-year-old is valued at £30m by Gent, and should they later convince a buyer to pay that amount for him, this will bring a massive income for the Belgian club, who bought Orban for just £3.3m from Norwegian club Stabeak six months ago.
