Nantes and Boavista reach agreement for Super Eagles star’s return

The Nigeria international has enjoyed a journeyman career, with his next destination likely to be France

Nigerian defender Chidozie Awaziem is on the brink of reuniting with Nantes, bidding farewell to his time at Boavista, Soccernet.ng reports.

Having previously featured on loan for Nantes during the 2017-2018 season, Awaziem is now primed for a permanent return to the Canaries.

A convergence of interests between FC Nantes and Boavista has culminated in an agreement in principle, according to L’Equipe.

As per the report, FC Nantes and Boavista have taken substantial strides towards cementing an accord, which will see the 26-year-old Nigerian defender ink his signature on a lucrative four-year contract.

Nantes have already procured a personal agreement with the versatile defender, establishing the foundations for this imminent transfer.

The decision to bring Awaziem aboard stems from the need to compensate for the departure of Andrei Girotto, who is set to seal a move to Al-Taawoun.

Awaziem spent last season on loan at Hajduk Split, playing an instrumental role in the club’s triumph in the Croatia Cup.

While Club Brugge were also interested in acquiring Awaziem, it is Nantes that have emerged victorious in the contest for his services.

The impending transfer will see Awaziem join forces with his compatriot Moses Simon at  Nantes.

As Nantes aim to erase the memories of a lackluster performance in Ligue 1 last season, the acquisition of Awaziem assumes pivotal significance.

The Canaries narrowly avoided a relegation, securing the 16th spot in the 20-team table.

The team’s struggles were evident as they mustered a mere 37 goals and conceded a staggering 55.
