Porto promote Super Eagles prodigy to first team ahead of next season

Porto have promoted Nigerian sensation Abraham Marcus to their first team for the upcoming 2023-24 season, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 23-year-old forward initially joined Porto on loan from Nigeria Premier League side Remo Stars FC in July 2022, with his destination being Porto B, the club’s reserve team.

Marcus wasted no time leaving his mark on the pitch, impressing fans and management with his exceptional skills.

In 30 appearances for Porto B, he netted an impressive tally of nine goals and contributed an assist.

Porto’s manager, Sérgio Conceição, was so enamored with Marcus’s performance that he invited the youngster to train with the first team and ultimately handed him his highly anticipated Porto debut.

Initially, it was anticipated that Marcus would return to Remo Stars at the end of the loan spell unless Porto offered him a permanent contract.

However, recent reports suggest that the Nigerian prodigy has caught the attention of Porto’s coaching staff, earning him an extended stay with the club.

The renowned Portuguese sports outlet, Record, has reported that Abraham Marcus is firmly in the plans of FC Porto’s main team.

Manager Sérgio Conceição has called up multiple players, including Marcus, for training sessions. Notably, Marcus will no longer be part of the FC Porto B team, as he has moved up to the first team.

Porto, who finished as runners-up in the Primeira Liga last season, narrowly trailing champions Benfica, have their sights set on reclaiming the title they have lifted a remarkable 30 times.

With Marcus’s talent now gracing their first team, Porto hopes he can contribute significantly to their championship aspirations in the upcoming season.

Marcus has two caps for the Super Eagles.
