Dessers just joined the Gers this summer, but the club would be expecting a lot from him next season
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers is confident that he would perform well at Rangers to build a solid relationship with the club’s fans, Soccernet reports.
The 28-year-old Nigerian point man joined Rangers earlier in July after a failed adventure at Italy’s Serie A side, where he scored seven goals in 32 appearances. The club got relegated after a 19th-place finish in the Italian top flight.
Dessers would be expected to hit the ground running as the Gers want to regain the title. Rangers have lost the Scottish Premiership to Celtic for the last two seasons, and they would be looking to get it back soon.
However, coach Michale Beale has his work cut out for him. Winger Ryan Kent has left the club. Also, star striker Alfredo Morelos, the club’s all-time highest goalscorer, has left. As such, Dessers would have to fit in immediately
Despite the challenges ahead, Dessers is confident that he will deliver for the Glasgow giants.
“Alfredo[Morelos] did amazing things for Rangers and at Ibrox, so it’s never easy to follow a good striker like he was,” Dessers said per Rangers News hub.
“But on the other side, I can’t look at the past. I’m only here for the present and the future.”
“I hope to do some good things for Rangers and build a similar relationship with the fans, but that will depend on our relationship and the things I do on the pitch and off the pitch. I’m confident that will work.”
Dessers has a wealth of experience playing across Europe. He would look to help the Gers win the Premiership again next season.
