The Super Eagles defender had a bad debut campaign in the Eredivisie, but he could be on his way to a Premier League club
Brighton have renewed their interest in Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey, as they have failed to agree on a deal to sign Chelsea-owned Levi Colwill, who spent last season on loan at the club, Soccernet reports.
Colwill played an important role at Brighton last season, making 24 appearances across all competitions. However, the youngster was on loan at the club and returned to his parent club Chelsea at the end of the season.
Brighton have been trying to sign the England youth international permanently. However, Chelsea are not willing to let Colwill go.
The Seagulls have now started looking at other options, and according to The Athletic, Brighton are considering a move for Ajax star Bassey.
Bassey is an enticing option for the club because of his versatility- he can play at left-back and central defence. His pace and grit are also important aspects of his game.
Brighton already tried to get Bassey last summer before Ajax signed him. However, the Godenzonen may let the 23-year-old defender leave the club if they get the right fee. Bassey did not entirely impress in his first season at Ajax.
The former Rangers man failed to adapt to their style of play and was often an object of ridicule among past Ajax players.
Bassey is currently valued at €15million per Transfermarket.
