The Super Eagles star just left Ibrox last season, but he looks set to return to base
Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun is set to rejoin former Scottish champions Rangers just a year after he left the club, Soccernet reports.
The Nigerian defender left Glasgow last summer after a very successful pre-season stay that saw him help the club to the Premiership title, the FA Cup, and the Europa League final. He played a major role in the club’s success, making 65 appearances across all competitions.
Balogun wanted to remain at Rangers, but the Gers opted to let him go after his contract expired in June 2022.
Afterwards, the 35-year-old defender joined English Championship side QPR. Balogun made 16 appearances for them across all competitions, but he could not help them reach the promotion spots.
Balogun’s contract at QPR expired at the end of the season. Following the expiration of his contract, he sent the club’s fans a goodbye message.
“Thank you to everyone at Queens Park Rangers – the staff, the players and you, the supporters, Balogun said via his Twitter page.
Despite everything that has happened throughout this very difficult season, I’ve really enjoyed my time at the club. I’m wishing you nothing but the best for the future you.
According to Sky Sports Scotland, Balogun is set to rejoin Rangers on a free transfer. In fact, the deal seems to be almost done. If the transfer works out, he will rejoin striker Cyriel Dessers, who just joined the club from Cremonese this summer.
