Cameroonian midfielder, André-Frank Zambo Anguissa, has revealed that his teammate, Victor Osimhen, accurately predicted their Serie A triumph for Napoli this season, Soccernet.ng reports.
Anguissa, who joined the club permanently last summer after an impressive loan spell, arrived at Napoli aware of the team’s three-decade-long Scudetto drought.
However, Osimhen expressed utmost confidence in his ability to score the crucial goals that would propel the club to the league title.
Osimhen’s prophecy proved true as the Nigerian striker netted an impressive 26 goals, leading Napoli to their first Serie A championship since 1990.
Anguissa expressed delight in having Osimhen as a friend, emphasizing the striker’s foresight and commitment.
In an interview with The Athletic (via Tutto Napoli), Anguissa shared Osimhen’s premonition, stating, “He predicted the Scudetto for me at the beginning of the season, so I’m happy he scored all those goals. He said to me, ‘Trust me, I’ll do my best to win the Scudetto.’ He was right. He’s a great friend.”
Osimhen’s accomplishments have been well documented. He finished the campaign as the top goalscorer in the Italian top flight, marking the first time an African player has achieved this feat.
Furthermore, Osimhen contributed five additional goals to guide Napoli to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League, their best-ever performance in the competition.
The 24-year-old’s excellence also shone on the international stage, where his seven goals during the Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign is surpassed by no one.
In his most recent feat, Osimhen’s brace played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s victory over Sierra Leone, securing their qualification for the 2023 AFCON with a game to spare. The striker’s impact on club and country has solidified his reputation as one of Africa’s brightest football talents.
