Former Chelsea manager Glenn Hoddle has called on the Blues to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen ahead of Manchester United.
Chelsea’s lack of firepower up front was again on display on Tuesday evening as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. The club has scored only 29 goals in the Premier League this season, which is their worst return at this stage in a league campaign since 1979.
Osimhen, on the other hand, has been in excellent form for Napoli this season, scoring 25 goals in 29 appearances.
Manchester United are also reportedly interested in signing the Nigerian international.
Hoddle believes Osimhen would be the perfect addition to Chelsea’s squad and the only player the club needs to sign this summer.
“You need someone who you think is going to score 20 goals for you, a fox in the box, someone who wants to be in that area where they’re creating so much,” Hoddle said on Premier League Productions (via Football365).
“But that’s the only player I think they need – they’ve got everything else.”
Hoddle also praised Chelsea’s current squad and believes that any new manager must only focus on bringing in a new striker.
“You’ve got two goalkeepers, the back players are strong enough and good enough, you’ve got your midfield, decent, might strengthen one there maybe, if you keep [Joao] Felix… all you need is a No.9 as a new manager going into Chelsea, in my opinion,” he said.
He also spoke highly of Osimhen, stating that he would score many goals if he were to join Chelsea. “Without a doubt, he’s number one, but there are a few clubs after him. But if you put him in a Chelsea shirt, he will score a load of goals,” Hoddle said.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will heed Hoddle’s advice and make a move for Osimhen this summer.
