Moffi has been outstanding this season, and he has continued to bang in the goals
Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi got a goal and an assist for Nice to help them defeat Sheriff Tiraspol 3-1 and seal their place in the quarterfinals of the Europa Conference League
Nice were looking to get a win and move to the next round of the Conference League when they welcomed Moldovan giants Sheriff Tiraspol to the Allianz Riviera.
They were favourites to win the tie, and they showed why. In-form Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi got a starting shirt, and his influence showed.
Nice started the game well, probing at the away team’s defense. Tiraspol tried to prove stubborn, but Nice got their breakthrough nonetheless.
Khephren Thuram set Gaetan Laborde through on goal with a superb pass, and the forward finished with aplomb to give Les Aiglons the lead on the half-hour mark.
Nice tried to score more goals, but they had to wait till the 53rd minute to get their second, and it was none other than Moffi.
Pablo slipped a clever pass to the Super Eagles forward, who, despite being under pressure, sent a measured shot from just inside the box into Sheriff Tiraspol’s net
Abdoul Tapsoba scored just a minute later to give the visitors some hope. However, Nice brutally shattered their hopes eleven minutes before time, and Moffi was in the mix once more. Nice went on a swift attack that put Moffi one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but his shot hit the bar. Luckily, it fell to Brahimi, who was running behind, and he simply stuffed the ball into the net.
Nice ran out 3-1 winners and that ensured that over two legs, the tie ended 4-1 on aggregate.
Moffi made the cut for Jose Peseiro’s squad for Nigeria’s double-header against Guinea-Bissau, and he would look to translate his club form to the country later this month.
