The Nigerian international made a switch to the St Mary Stadium on the last day of the January transfer window.
Southampton manager, Nathan Jones, commented on Paul Onuachu’s first match against Brentford FC.
Onuachu’s debut game for the saints resulted in a 3-nil loss on Saturday afternoon at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Saturday saw Southampton suffer their 14th Premier League loss of the season as Brentford won three points at home thanks to goals from Ben Mee, Bryan Mbeumo, and Mathias Jensen.
The new signings (Onuachu and Kamaldeen Sulemana), who made their debuts, were acknowledged by the Welsh manager in a post-game interview with journalists.
“They’ve added to the squad, they added to the performance, they gave us a little bit more focal point, a bit more aggression, bit more front-footedness, and we were better in the second half.” Jones said, as quoted by Hamphirelive.
The former Luton Town manager pondered on what went wrong after the terrible defeat, even if his side is still firmly entrenched at the bottom of the league.
“But right at the end, one ball flipped in, you don’t mark it and they score. We put as many, if not more, balls into their box than they did to ours, but they put in the challenge, they were touch-tight and did the basics really well. That’s the disappointing thing as my teams are usually top of the tree in terms of basics.” he added.
Since taking over the Saints in November 2022, Nathan Jones has only won one game, drawn no matches, and lost six of his seven games.
