“There is interest”- Genk chief confirms Super Eagles star is in demand

The Super Eagles hitman has been a consistent performer for the Limburgers in the last two seasons and Genk are not willing to lose him

Genk chief Dimitri De Conde has revealed that some clubs have shown interest in signing Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu.

In the last two seasons, Onuachu has cemented his name as the best striker in Belgium. The big Super Eagles striker has been a consistent performer for the Limburgers.

Two seasons ago Onuachu scored 33 goals in 38 Jupiler League games. Last season, he struggled with injuries, but he still hit 21 goals in 35 games.

This season, the 28-year-old striker has not slowed down. He has scored 13 goals in 14 games.

However, in the last two seasons, Onuachu’s future has been in the balance. He has been expected to make a big move away from the Jupiler League, but no club has been able to procure his service.

Last year, there were links to Arsenal, West Ham, and Lyon, but it all amounted to naught. Onuachu has also been linked to Atletico Madrid, but a deal has failed to see daylight.

With his brilliance this season, it is expected that the former FC Midtjylland man would be associated with a move away from Cegeka Arena.

Genk chief De Conde has not denied that Onuachu’s departure is a possibility. He has also confirmed that some clubs have shown interest.

“There is interest in Onuachu here and there, I won’t deny that,” De Conde said as per Tipsbladet.

“But no one is eager to switch. We have something beautiful going on and want to finish it. We don’t want to let anyone go this winter either’

Onuachu’s contract expires at the end of next season, and Genk may be forced to cash in on him soon if he refuses to extend his stay at the club.
