The Nigerian attacker was once one of the best strikers in the Italian top flight, but he has fallen down the pecking order at second-tier Benevento
Super Eagles striker Simy Nwankwo wants to remain at Serie B club Benevento and fight for his place in the team according to his agent Domenico Beraldi.
Nwankwo burst into the limelight three seasons ago, when he scored 20 goals in 38 games for Crotone in the Serie A. However, he has been unable to replicate such performance since then.
The Super Eagles star has failed to score more than two league goals in the last two seasons at Salernitana and Parma.
This season, Nwankwo has been very poor. He has made just nine appearances in Serie B with no goal involvement. And he has spent more time on the bench rather than on the pitch.
However, the 30-year-old’s agent insists that Nwankwo wants to stay at Benevento and fight for a shirt at the Fabio Cannavaro-tutored side.
“Nwankwo’s exit is not even an option, he is focused on his season in Benevento, where he is confident of obtaining good results with his teammates and the coach, with whom he gets on very well,” Beraldi said as per Pianeta Serie B.
“He wants to stay to prove his worth, hoping he has put behind him some minor muscle injuries which have held him back a bit so far. At the end of the season, as always, we will evaluate the best for him”.
Benevento currently sit 14th in Serie B and are in danger of falling into the relegation zone. Nwankwo would look to hit his stride soon and help push his side higher up the table with his goals.
