The Nigerian striker suffered a horrific injury last year and he has never remained the same since then
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed that he still uses a mask because it protects his face, and he feels comfortable using it.
Osimhen suffered a nasty head injury in November 2022, when he collided with Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar. After tests, it was confirmed that he had fractured his eye socket and cheekbone.
The injury ruled him out of action for over two months, ensuring that he missed Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
However, Osimhen returned to action in January, but he had to play with a mask to be safe. The 23-year-old hitman has been using the mask since then despite reports that he may not wear it for a long time.
Osimhen has explained that he is still wearing the mask because it protects his face and he feels comfortable with it.
“The injury was heavy, that was the reason for the operation and the long period in which I was out,” Osimhen said as per Napoli Magazine.
“I really don’t think about removing the mask for now. The mental aspect has nothing to do with it. The mask is physical protection and I wear it I keep it. It’s not a superstitious thing, I’m more relaxed like this.
“I protect my face better by wearing it and I don’t take it off”.
Osimhen’s mask is made of carbon fiber. Despite its protective feature, it is very light. Since he started using it, he has been in great form, scoring goals aplenty for club and country.
