The Argentine hero produced a memorable performance to power the South Americans to the semifinals of the World Cup

Super Eagles legend Sunday Oliseh has applauded the brilliance of Lionel Messi after the PSG playmaker led Argentina to a thrilling win over the Netherlands at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Messi, football’s greatest-ever magician, was spectacular as Argentina and the Netherlands battled to a 2-2 draw before the South Americans won the pulsating encounter on penalties.

The former Barcelona icon produced a stunning assist for Argentina’s opener before doubling his side’s advantage from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute.

However, the Dutch fought back remarkably scoring twice through Wout Weghorst to drag the gruelling affair – which produced a record fifteen yellow cards – into extra time and penalties.

But Argentina prevailed 4-3 on penalties to advance to the semifinals where they face Croatia.

Messi’s excellent showing, though, was the highlight for former Juventus midfielder Sunday Oliseh. And the retired Nigeria international has showered praises on the mercurial midfield ace.

Oliseh wrote on Twitter: “Messi! Messi!! Messi!!! Below was the atmosphere we experienced as the “Genius” Lionel Messi turned on the flame. He was defending, pressing and above all, showing us why he is one of the best to ever play the Game. I raise my hat. Bravo Senor!!!”

Argentina are two-time winners of the FIFA World Cup but they last lifted the trophy in 1986, well over three decades ago. The reigning Copa American champions are, however, two wins away from lifting the title in Qatar.
