The Nigeria international has been almost perfect for the Parthenopeans since his return from injury
Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti has applauded Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen for his contribution to Napoli’s crucial 2-1 away win at Atalanta on Saturday.
In a man-of-the-match performance, Osimhen scored the equaliser for Napoli and then provided a stunning assist to power Napoli to a comeback victory. International compatriot Ademola Lookman had given Atalanta the lead from the penalty spot.
Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti acknowledges Osimhen’s excellent contribution to the win that sends Il Partenopei eight points clear of Atalanta at the top of the Italian Serie A table.
But the former AS Roma manager insists there remains an area of improvement for the Super Eagles striker.
Spalletti has called on Osimhen to do better when he is with the ball and to work more with his teammates.
“Osimhen is a player who has these sudden surges and spurts, but he needs to every now and then also figure out how to pass it and work with his teammates,” Spalletti stated.
“He was a little tired today, but still created chances, caused issues, and when Atalanta pushed their wingbacks higher with the strikers wide, he was alone in midfield and in those situations can do more than he did tonight.”
Osimhen has been in excellent form of late, with the former Lille lad scoring seven goals in his last six appearances for Napoli.
The 23-year-old attacker’s strike against Atalanta sends him clear of Simeon Simy Nwankwo as Nigeria’s all-time top goalscorer in Serie A history.
