The Asian underdogs shocked the two-time world champions in their opening group game of Qatar 2022

Super Eagles stars Odion Ighalo and Ahmed Musa have congratulated Saudi Arabia after their historic 2-1 win over Argentina at the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Ighalo was present inside the Lusail Stadium to watch some of his Al Hilal teammates inspire Saudi Arabia to a memorable come-from-behind victory.

The Green Falcons fell behind early to a Lionel Messi penalty. Still, two goals within five second-half minutes from Saleh Al-Shehri and Salem Al Dawsari turned the tie around in favour of the Asian representatives.

It was one of the biggest shocks in World Cup history as title favourites and reigning South American champions Argentina were stunned by the lowest-ranked team in Qatar.

And after the encounter, Ighalo took to his Instagram to celebrate the Saudi Arabians.

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa also has links to Saudi Arabia, having previously enjoyed a successful spell at Al Nasri.

The Sivasspor forward also went on a social media platform to applaud the three-time Asian Cup winners.

“Congratulations Saudi Arabia,” Ighalo wrote on his official Instagram account.

On his Twitter page, Musa also wrote, “Congratulations to my Saudi Arabia Fans.”

Saudi Arabia have declared a national holiday to celebrate the Green Falcons’ remarkable triumph over Argentina.

The Asians have boosted their chances of qualifying for the knockout round from Group C with the win over La Albiceleste.

Herve Renard’s side will need positive results against Poland and Mexico to reach the World Cup’s Round of 16 for the first time since 1994.
