Former Super Eagles and Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo has opined on his former side's decision to part ways with Ruben Amorim after 14 months, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 36-year-old forward donned the red jersey during a brief loan spell from January 2020 to January 2021, fulfilling his lifelong ambition of playing for the three-time UEFA Champions League.
Under Ruben Amorim, Manchester United lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur, while finishing 15th in the English top-flight.
In 63 games under the Portuguese, the Red Devils won just 25 games, losing 23 and drawing 15, a poor feat for a club of United's stature.

Ruben Amorim: Odion Ighalo believes Manchester United were right to part ways
The former Watford striker revealed he'd been keeping tabs on the recent performances of his former clubs. Ighalo admits that while the results were poor, he didn't expect the record Premier League Champions League winners to sack Ruben Amorim after 14 months.
“We all saw that coming because the team has not been doing well, and they're not as consistent. They've been up and down,” the AFCON 2019 Golden Boot winner said on punditry duties with Super Sports.

“There were games they should have won that they drew, and games they should've drawn where they lost.
“The last game at home against Wolves, they didn't play at all. They weren't playing like a team.
“I watched the game against Newcastle United, which they played at home, but it was like they were away. They sat back, and Newcastle played with almost 80% ball possession.
“I saw that coming. I knew they'd change the coach, but I didn't know it was going to be this early. I want them to do well, and hopefully, they will bring someone who can take the team to the next level,” the former Al-Wehda striker concluded.

While the club's former manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, has been linked to a return to Old Trafford on an interim basis, it was Darren Fletcher who was on the sidelines in United's 2-2 draw to Burnley at Turf Moor last night.
