Revitalised Super Eagles midfielder set for new ₦‎54million/week deal at Everton

The Nigerian midfielder’s career was plummeting at some point, but he has produced some incredible displays in recent months

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi is close to agreeing on a contract extension at Everton, which could see him earn £100,000(₦‎54million) per week.

Iwobi has been one of the best players at Everton this year. The 26-year-old was one of the major protagonists in the Toffees’ relegation fight last season.

The Nigerian midfielder rose from being a maligned figure at Goodison Park to being one of the go-to guys.

This season, Iwobi has featured for Everton prominently from midfield, and he has excelled, recording five assists and one goal in 15 Premier League games.

His importance to Frank Lampard’s setup, Iwobi has contributed to half of Everton’s goals this season.

The Super Eagles star’s current deal expires at the end of next season, and Soccernet reported earlier that Everton want to extend his contract.

According to The Sun, Iwobi and Everton are very close to agreeing on a new deal that could see him remain at the club till 2026. Also, Iwobi is set for a good pay rise.

He currently earns £70,000(₦‎38million) at Everton. However, if he agrees to a new deal, he would be making £100,000(₦‎54million) per week.

Despite Iwobi’s brilliance, Everton is still shaky. They currently sit 17th on the Premier League table, one point above relegation positions. He would look to boost his side when action resumes in the Premier League.
