The Nigerian midfielder was once one of the most maligned players at the Goodison, but he has turned a new leaf in recent months
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has revealed that he is willing to sign a contract extension at Everton.
Iwobi was one of the most maligned players at Everton last season. The former Arsenal man struggled to get games under his belt and when he did, he rendered stale displays.
Also, Iwobi was misfiring on the international stage. His red card against Tunisia in the quarterfinals of the last Africa Cup of Nations is considered by many as one of the reasons for Nigeria’s ouster.
However, the Super Eagles midfielder turned a new leaf in March. Iwobi played an important role in Everton’s survival charge last season, featuring brilliantly from full-back.
This season, the 26-year-old has not rested on his oars. Iwobi has been one of Frank Lampard’s trusted lads at Goodison Park.
The Nigeria international has featured prominently in midfield this season, and he has been involved in a whopping six of Everton’s eleven Premier League goals this season.
Following his consistent displays, Everton have opened contract talks with Iwobi to extend his stay beyond 2024 when his contract expires.
Iwobi is enjoying his stay at Goodison Park, and he insists that he is willing to commit his future to the club.
“I want to win as many things as I can with this club. That is why I came here, the club was very ambitious and it still is. I’d like to stay.” Iwobi said as per Liverpool Echo.
The Nigerian midfielder has been one of the best Toffees in the last eight months, and if he continues with his current trajectory, he could easily be one of the best players to grace Goodison Park.
