The Nigerian international has failed to impress many in his first few games in the Italian top flight
Italian football expert and lawyer Domenico La Marca has expressed his disappointment in the scoring output of Nigerian forward Cyriel Dessers since he joined Serie A outfit Cremonese.
Newly promoted Cremonese placed a lot of their survival hopes on Dessers when they splashed more than six million euros to sign him from Belgian Pro League side KRC Genk in the summer.
With three goals from three games for Genk in August, Dessers had shown he was ready to continue his prolific goalscoring run of 2022.
But it has been tough for the former Heracles Almelo man to adapt to the Italian Serie A. Dessers has started all of Cremonese’s seven league matches but has not managed to find the net.
And Serie A pundit Domenico La Marca, who saw the Nigerian score at will in the Netherlands and Belgium, is unimpressed with his form in Italy.
In an interview with Area Napoli, La Marca said, “Honestly, I expected more from Cyriel Dessers, a forward I have followed since who played in Heracles Almelo, who I believe may be the technical leader of a Cremonese who needs his goals.”
An accomplished goalscorer, Dessers will be convinced he can rediscover his goalscoring touch soon.
The 27-year-old was the top scorer in last season’s Europa Conference League with ten goals, outshining AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham.
Dessers was also on target for Nigeria on Friday, as the Super Eagles battled to a 2-2 draw with the Algeria B team in a test game.
