The Super Eagles talisman failed to get a move away from Cegeka Arena in the summer, and it seems that has played into his head
Genk head of football Dmitri De Conde has expressed optimism over Paul Onuachu’s ability to deliver despite his stumbling start to the season.
Onuachu has been outstanding for Genk in the last two seasons, registering 58 goals in 88 games for the Smurfs. The Super Eagles striker has rendered displays that should have raised the eyebrows of some of the biggest teams in Europe.
Yet he has been unable to get a move away from Cegeka Arena.
The 21-year-old was linked with Fiorentina, Atletico Madrid, and Lyon in the summer, but none of the talks came to fruition.
It seems the whole transfer saga is getting to the FC Ebedei export, as he has continually struggled with injuries recently. This season, he has played just 54 minutes for Genk, and he is yet to score.
Genk chief De Conde is not bothered, as he feels that Onuachu is in a good place mentally and would soon return to his best.
“Of course, I’ve already talked to him(Onuachu),” De Conde said as per Voetbalkrant.
“I have full confidence that he will be back on top very soon. Paul has a great attitude, and will always think of the group.
“He has also clarified that he feels good under the new staff. The problem was that he started the preparation with an injury and he was unavailable for a few weeks.
Genk’s next game is a tough away fixture at Royale Union SG, and Onuachu is expected to lead the line. The Nigerian star would look to help his side to victory by scoring.
